Postdoc Position in FIGHTBLIGHT: Bioengineering Immune Receptors for Potato Blight Resistance

Project Overview: FIGHTBLIGHT

The FIGHTBLIGHT project is a collaborative effort with prominent researchers:

  • Prof. Silvia Restrepo (Boyce Thompson Institute, Ithaca, NY, USA)
  • Prof. Sophien Kamoun (The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich, UK)

Using the Cas-Exo technology for targeted insertions, the project aims to:

  • Integrate novel effector recognition domains in potato immune receptors.
  • Develop resistance against the devastating potato late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans.
    The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and leverages cutting-edge bioengineering approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Constructs: Create constructs for targeted insertions of effector recognition domains in immune receptors.
  • Potato Transformation: Perform genetic editing and transformation to confer pathogen resistance.
  • Cas-Exo Technology Improvement: Enhance the existing CRISPR-Cas-Exo platform.
  • Collaborative Research: Work closely with international partners in the USA and UK.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • A Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Expertise in:
    • Plant transformation techniques.
    • Advanced genome editing tools such as CRISPR.
  • Strong interest in understanding plant-pathogen interactions.
  • Excellent proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with targeted gene knock-ins.
  • Knowledge of immune receptor bioengineering.
  • Strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals.
