Postdoc Researcher in Microbial Biotechnology, Trondheim, Norway
The Division of Microbial Biotechnology at NTNU invites applications for a Researcher position as part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation-funded project “Carbon-efficient access to seaweed sugars in microbial bioprocesses (Weed2C).” This project, led by NTNU, aims to develop methods for valorizing red and brown seaweeds into high-value compounds through microbial bioprocesses, fostering a sustainable bioeconomy. The successful candidate will focus on enhancing carbon assimilation of seaweed-derived sugars by fine-tuning the central carbon metabolism and anaplerotic pathways in Corynebacterium glutamicum.
Key Responsibilities
- Upgrade and test red and brown seaweeds as microbial feedstocks.
- Characterize seaweed-based microbial cell factories using omics tools.
- Develop microbial cell factories through genetic engineering techniques.
- Apply analytical methods for microbial cell factory characterization.
- Conduct microbial cultivations at various scales.
- Supervise master’s students in biotechnology.
- Contribute to individual and collaborative scientific proposals.
- Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and reports.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related field recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD.
- Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques.
- Strong scientific background with a proven publication record.
- Proficiency in written and oral English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in microbial biotechnology and transcriptomics.
- Knowledge of CRISPR tools and their applications.
- Experience with bioprocesses and fermentations at various scales.

Salary and Conditions
The gross salary for the Researcher position (code 1109) will depend on qualifications and experience. A 2% contribution will be deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The position is externally funded and will run for a period of three years, starting on May 1, 2025.
