About the Project

The position is part of the SONATA 18 project titled “PulsBioInk”, led by Dr. Jagoda Litowczenko-Cybulska. This project aims to develop mechanically stable, biocompatible, and biomimetic 3D-printed stents using innovative bioinks combining natural and synthetic polymers. The stents will incorporate human cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells to create bioartificial constructs for potential cardiovascular disease treatments.

Key highlights of the project include:

  • Utilizing silk fibroin-based natural polymers for superior biological and mechanical properties.
  • Employing synthetic polymers for enhanced scaffold stability and mechanical strength.
  • Investigating interactions between 3D-printed constructs and encapsulated cells, both in vitro and in a custom-built ex vivo bioreactor.

The research is conducted at the Center for Advanced Technologies AMU in collaboration with the University of Michigan.
