Position: Women Research Fellow (Category I and II)

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, invites applications under the Biotechnology Career Advancement and Re-orientation (BioCARe) Programme for women researchers. This fellowship is aimed at enhancing the participation of women in the field of biotechnology and allied areas.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Age: Candidates must be Indian women nationals, up to 55 years of age, residing in India and unemployed as of the closing date for applications.
• Educational Qualification:
  • Category I: PhD in any discipline of Biotechnology/Life Sciences or allied areas, or MD/MDS/MVSc.
  • Category II: M.Tech in Biotechnology/allied areas, M.Pharma, or an equivalent degree.
• Applicants must not be enrolled in higher studies (e.g., PhD) or receiving fellowships from other sources.
• Applicants should not have received any previous extramural research grant as a Principal Investigator.

Duration:

The duration of the project is for a maximum of 3 years.

Grant Amount:

The research support includes:

• Category I: Up to ₹60.00 lakhs, including a consolidated fellowship of ₹75,000 per month.
• Category II: Up to ₹40.00 lakhs, including a consolidated fellowship of ₹58,000 per month.

Nature of Support:

• The grant includes non-recurring (minor equipment) and recurring expenses (consumables, contingency, domestic travel, and overhead charges).
• No support will be provided for hiring manpower such as JRF/SRF/Project Assistants, etc.
• Applicants must select a mentor from a suitable host institute, and the research should complement the mentor’s field of expertise without being an extension of the mentor’s research.

Selection Process:

• Applications will be evaluated by an expert committee based on scientific merit.
• Selected candidates will need to present their research proposals before the final approval.

Important Notes:

• This fellowship cannot be used for pursuing PhD or higher studies.
• Candidates selected under this programme cannot hold any other grant or fellowship concurrently.
• Successful candidates must join their host institution within 45 days of the administrative sanction order.
