Assistant Professor in Clinical Microbiology

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Clinical Microbiology within its School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and teaching the “Basic and Molecular Microbiology” module for the MSc in Healthcare Infection and contributing to undergraduate medical teaching, especially in infection and immunology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Lead and develop teaching modules for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Research: Conduct research in clinical microbiology, focusing on areas like Enterobacterial virulence, bacterial genomics, and bacteriophage biology. The appointee will collaborate with colleagues and actively seek external funding to support ongoing research projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of three years post-doctoral research in microbiology.
  • Proven track record of high-quality research, demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and teaching skills.
  • Experience in research supervision.
  • Ability to attract external funding.

Administrative Duties:

The candidate will also contribute to course/module administration within the discipline, support the overall academic mission of the department, and participate in various activities of the academic health sciences centre at TCD.
